Tender loving care and a healing touch to the Differently Abled


This programme was started here at the year 1992 for giving appropriate therapeutic services to the disabled children below 5 years especially those who are having developmental delay, cerebral palsy and other neurological complaints. Through this therapeutic intervention and preschool training programme, the risk of disabilities can be reduced and also to improve the functional abilities and cognitive skills of the children. Around 45 children are getting training here. The service areas include early stimulation activities, development in motor, cognitive, communication, social and self care skills. Parents are given training in all the above areas by multidisciplinary team.  Gradually they become capable of giving training at home. Now all kinds of Neurological and musculo skeletal complaints like cerebral palsy, delayed milestones, Down Syndrome, Spinabifida, Hydrocephalus Microcephalus, Muscular dystrophy, clubfoot etc.., are being handled here. When a new case come to this unit case history will be taken, assessment of the current level of functioning in various skill areas will be conducted by using Upanayan checklist and preschool evaluation scale. After that, plan and give appropriate intervention programme for the child and training to the parents to continue the rehabilitation programme at home.

  • To provide guidelines, consulting services and awareness programmes to parents, family members and communities to reduce the risk of disabilities

Services Available

  • PhysioTherapy

Many children with mental retardation have motor problems i.e; delayed development, cerebral palsy and other physical handicaps are also seen. Detailed assessment is carried out and therapeutic programmes are given for improving their gross motor skills like posture and movement.

  • Occupational Therapy

Mentally retarded and physically disabled children may have problems in fine motor skills and self care activities. So training in hand skills like grip, grasp etc are very important to perform fine motor skills and also the activities of daily living.

  • Speech Therapy

Training in this unit is mainly given for children who have hearing problems and those who require speech and language training .After conducting detailed assessment, children are given intervention according to individual needs.

  • Cognitive Training

Cognitive training is very important for a child who have developmental problems because the child may have low intellectual capacity and learning problems due to lack of concentration and co-ordination. This children may show delay in age appropriate activity skills also. To improve cognitive function different activities like colour matching, building blocks, identify the shapes and also in, reading and writing etc will be given.
