Nirmala Sadan is an institute dedicated for the education, research and rehabilitation of persons with Intellectual Disability and Learning Disability and is run by FraciscanClarist sisters in the Diocese of Kothamangalam. The Institute has a humble beginning with 8 children in a rent free building in the year 1985. Later it was shifted to the present site which was donated by the Bishop of the Diocese of Kothamangalam. The centre is located in Muvattupuzha-Thodupuzha route is 3 kms from Muvattupuzha town. It is in AvolyGramaPanchayath of MuvattupuzhaTaluk in the District of Ernakulam. The teacher training programme was started in 1990. At present the school and teacher training centre are functioning as separate units of VimalaMahilaSamajam, a charitable registered society (Reg. No. E. R. 175/76). The special school is funded by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India.
